Landing a Job in Fashion Marketing – Steps to Success

A career in fashion marketing can be exciting and rewarding, as well as fast paced, challenging and stressful. Despite all the hard work to become successful in this highly competitive field, many people set their sites on a fashion marketing career.

Since fashion marketing is such a competitive field it is easy to get lost among other candidates. Taking the right steps to help land that perfect job is the best approach.

The first step is having the right education for the job. A candidate for a fashion marketing career needs at the very least a Fashion Marketing Degree which will provide the skills and knowledge necessary to do the job.
The second step is to decide which career field you are interested in. There are several directions you can go with fashion marketing, there are many options to choose from within the field; Fashion Buyer, Fashion Coordinator, Production Assistant, Visual Merchandiser, Merchandise Manager or Stylist.

The next steps would be to consult with a job placement specialist; most fashion programs offer assistance with this. Other things to do include networking by attending parties, trade shows, fashion shows and other events where you can interact with potential employers, just make sure to have plenty of resumes and business cards to hand out. It is very important to keep up with current fashion trends during the job hunting process as they are constantly changing and you must be up to date. Lastly, talk with peers and exchange tips for interviewing, try doing practice interviews with friends and peers.
